[Yeah, he does that. But he's cheerful enough when she shows up, lifting a hand to wave at her—and then gesturing at one of the posters plastered up on the side of the theater.]
You heard of this one?
[It sure looks like a thriller, its poster one of those cliche things where there's a closeup of two dudes' faces spliced together to make one face with different lighting on each side.]
Not that I have . . . but it's showing in like, 20 minutes, and it looks totally intense, right?
That's what I like to hear! How d'you feel about popcorn? I mean, I'm gonna get some with or without you though, just sayin'!
[He steps over closer to her and lifts a hand to rest lightly on her back. Too much . . . ? Well, he'll know by her reaction. There's just some comfort in being casually close.]
You've gotta at least have that! Okay, so meet outside theater 8 in ten! I'll treat you to your ticket, Kirigiri!
[He leaves his hand there without pushing the contact any further. Come to think of it . . . he already feels better. Maybe he just needed to see her . . . ]
[He goes to grab the tickets and a popcorn, his mood having elevated like ten levels from earlier. Awesome. That was the whole point of this!
Unless she ends up in the Nexus Code before they can even watch the movie, or something.
That's stupid. What a stupid, unnecessary, annoying thought. But he wonders—how does it happen, anyway? When do people get taken? Is it always when they're alone? Do they just not wake up in the morning? Or can it happen any time; has anyone ever seen anyone glitch out and vanish? Could it happen in the middle of the day, in the middle of a store maybe, or a movie theater . . . ?
God, what a pointless train of thought. He could ask Kirigiri about it, but he doesn't want to bring the whole mood down. He didn't mean to bring his own mood down with this.
He scoffs under his breath as he makes his way through the scattered crowds of people and back over to Kirigiri, who is of course not suddenly in the Nexus Code, come on. She's hard to miss with that gorgeous hair. Leon holds out the ticket to her with a slightly weak smile.]
[ She takes the ticket, noticing his smile is a little weaker—understandably so. But she doesn't say anything, instead nodding and giving him a small smile before heading inside the theater. After all, saying something now would probably ruin the movie, wouldn't it? Talking about classmates disappearing isn't ever going to be a pleasant conversation, but it will be easier if they're both in a better mood.
Kyouko waits for Leon to catch up before turning to him. Thankfully the theater hasn't filled up yet, so there's a lot of spots to choose from. ]
[His mood lightens a little as they head into the theater. They're here to not think about it, right? She was even smiling at him a little, and that always warms his heart.
She's still here; he doesn't know what he'd do if she weren't, but he doesn't need to think about that right now. If he spent all his time with her thinking about that, he'd never enjoy any of it!
He slips into the theater with her and starts heading up the aisle, glancing over his shoulder at her as he leads the way.]
I'm an "in the back" kinda dude!
. . . I mean, you know what I mean . . . ha ha! The, yeah, the theater! —I like not sitting in front of people! And you don't wanna be too close anyway, right? Then you've gotta tilt your head way back.
[ Honestly, Kyouko wouldn't have even thought twice about what he said until he backtracked on his words. But, despite her urge to tease him about it, she doesn't say anything and instead follows him up to the last row.
She settles in next to Leon, watching the ads on the screen for a second. ]
Yeah . . . this's my first time here, y'know? Which I guess means it's been—that'd make it a couple years.
[Sure, he can't remember those years, and it feels unfair that they should count. But he's working on the whole remembering he's 19 thing, on remembering there's stuff he doesn't remember.]
That's way too depressing when I put it that way, though. Anyone else would think I, like, never get out of the house when I say stuff like that! But you know why.
[ Kyouko nods, looking at the movie screen thoughtfully. Who knows what they all got up to during that time. She wonders for a moment if she went to see movies with her classmates, but immediately disregards that thought. It's best not to go down that path right now. ]
I believe it's been even longer since I've seen anything in a theater...
We oughta do it more often, then! Not that it's always gotta be movies. There's a lot to do here, y'know? I feel like I oughta take better advantage of it . . . like, if CERES is gonna keep us here and torture us and all that, I might as well take advantage of the good stuff about this place while I can!
[He's relieved to have moved on from the thought too. Whew. The previews haven't started yet, but the people filing into the theater are starting to thin out as it gets close to time for the lights to go down.]
I agree. I admit, there are quite a few things here that I have yet to do.
[ She's certainly explored every inch of the colony, but actually going into the arcade and playing games or going shopping? She hasn't really done much of that, despite being here for so long. ]
[He glances down at the popcorn, and then at her hand . . . no, no, don't jump the gun! Wait until the movie starts! That's like half the point of movies!]
I would gladly go with you. [ It'd probably be fun going to an arcade with Leon. Naegi would probably like it too. He likes video games, at least Kyouko thinks he does.
She glances down at Leon's hand on her forearm, giving it a curious look before her eyes return to the screen. ]
So maybe next week sometime! Whenever you're open! Ah, I don't actually know anythin' about where you work or your schedule or anything like that.
[Hmm. She looked . . . but she didn't say anything. Should he move his hand? He considers carefully, and then just ends up leaving it where it is, lightly holding onto her arm. She can complain if she wants, he decides, or move her arm. He can totally take a hint!]
[ Leon's hand on her arm isn't exactly unwelcome, so Kyouko decides to let his hand rest there, even though she's not exactly sure why she doesn't mind it all that much. ]
I'm not especially busy most of the time. Solving cases doesn't take up that much of my time.
[ She is the SHSL Detective after all, so it sometimes takes her just a few minutes to solve a case. ]
I bet they don't even need any other detectives with you around—
[Whoops, there go the lights. Even thought it's just the previews starting, that's always a mood change; he lowers his voice and turns to face the screen, though he also leans closer.]
. . . Hope their movies here aren't all weird or something . . .
He leaves his hand where it is, and as the previews end and the movie starts, he shifts to curl his arm a little through hers. This still isn't hand-holding levels, but he's definitely going for steady contact, here. Kirigiri feels good and smells good and hey man this is what you do at the movies, you cozy up some to watch! Maybe next time they should watch one at his place . . . ]
[ Kyouko glances over at him as he hooks his arm through hers, but again, she doesn't pull away. She knows Leon has feelings for her, and it has her wondering if the contact is platonic or not. But she decides not to think about it too hard, because it's not necessarily bad, and he probably needs the closeness now anyway.
So she turns back to look at the screen, as the movie finally starts. It seems normal enough, but this is Cerealia, and a weird alien subplot could pop up any moment. ]
[Platonic might not be the right word, but it's innocent enough; it's comfortable like this, and she's right that he's glad for the closeness. It's easier not to think about people going missing, and to focus on people who are still here and good company.
. . . There are definitely a lot of alien extras in this movie, though . . . ]
Isn't it weird the main characters are all humans but everyone else is some weird thing?
[He keeps his voice down, attention still mostly on the movie.]

I may buy something to drink, though.
