It makes everything taste better, trust me! You wanna meet at the shopping center? Or I guess you can pick me up from my place. I need to check in with the others first.
[Rise-chan fresh out of the shower. Rise-chan fresh out of the shower!! Not that he's going to get anything out of it, he knows, but what a great thought to linger on. All damp and clean-smelling and flushed pink from the hot water . . .
[And off he goes, after a few minutes spent fussing in front of the mirror. He's torn between his vanity and wanting to get there as soon as possible for maximum shower-fresh Rise time. It makes for a fun collection of fantasies on the walk, anyway.
It's not far, so he shows up before too long despite his primping and knocks. Yooo!]
[Leon you're seriously too cute for words. By the time he shows up she's still fairly shower-fresh considering she's just in a pink skirt and a white camisole. Her hair's still wet and down and she has minimal make-up on, but she still grins brightly when she sees him.]
That was fast. [She's amused at least, but she's also grabbing his hand and pulling him inside.] Hey! I think everybody else is already out in the colony today. I need to finish up...do you want to wait out here? [Though she doesn't say so, the tail-end of her sentence can be filled in with "or are you coming into my room with me?" It's clear either way she doesn't mind.]
[He's assuming it's coming into her room with her, yeah, though that seems a little too good to be true. Still, he'll take it probably no matter what it is, and even though he knows she probably doesn't mean anything by it. He doesn't let go of her hand; let her drop it if she wants to, this is just fine with him!
(And no one's home either . . . damn, this is too perfect! Maybe? Maybe???)]
I'll follow you wherever you go, Rise-chan! —Not in a creepy way!
I think I gave up ever thinking you could really be creepy a long time ago. [It's just a thoughtful little statement, not really meant to mean much but it's the truth. She trusts Leon pretty much completely and she still hasn't let go of his hand either.]
The other option is my room so we can talk while I finish getting ready! It shouldn't take long but...[A shrug.] Some boys get weird about being in a girl's room.
Rise-chan, you're givin' me way too much power here.
[He snorts and keeps hold of her hand. All right, he's ready to be led. Lead the way to your bedroom, Rise.]
If you think I'm not gonna be a little excited bein' in a girl's room, I should probably let you down easy now, ha ha! Just so you know! But not like . . . creepy-excited, I promise! I'm not gonna do anything. Unless you ever wanted me to. You'd tell me if you did, right?
Am I~? [She knows that's true. She doesn't care and she's keeping her grip tight as she pulls him along to her room...
...which now actually looks like two people definitely live here, considering there's two of everything. Just be lucky Naoto's out, Leon. It's clear that pretty much everything pink or teal is Rise's and she gestures for him to take a seat on her bed while she seats herself at the vanity.]
...are you asking if I'd ever tell you if I wanted to sleep with you? [She sounds coy, mostly, though there's a tinge of interest in her tone. It's hard to say if she's interested in the question or the idea itself, and she's not clarifying. Sorry Leon, she's not going that easy on you.]
["Weird" or not, this is deeply intimate in a way that hadn't struck Leon until he sat on the bed. And it's not the bed part. Sure, he's on a girl's bed right now, and that's its own kind of intimate; that's not not on his mind. But it's something more casual, and yet deeper, than that. Maybe it's the way she's facing away from him to do whatever girls do in the mirror (it's not that different from what Leon does in the mirror and he knows it), the surprising level of trust he can feel in that . . .
Also, her room smells like her, and that's awesome.
He remembers to tune into the conversation, which is good, because it's a good one. She's facing away, but he can kind of see her in the mirror, and he grins at her in the reflection.]
That's what I'm sayin'! Asking? Whatever . . . yeah, 'course that's what I mean. A guy can't know unless a girl's honest about it! Or at least, like, that joking kinda honest. I'm totally into the whole "I'll show you you're gonna like it" thing, but it doesn't work that way in the real world unless the girl's in on it too. It'd be creepy otherwise!
[The vanity's spread with a few make-up brushes, eyeshadows and blushes and a few other tools that she moves to use almost automatically. As Leon explains himself she's continuing to apply her make-up but she's absolutely watching him through the mirror. Her face provides no tells one way or another, keeping that cool facade on her features for the time being.
If she's honest with herself...yeah, okay, she's thought about it. Of course she's thought about it. First of all, Leon's obviously attractive and Rise would have to be a total idiot not to realize that. Secondly, they've spent so much time together since Rise arrived in the colony and she's grown incredibly fond of him. She's idly fantasized about what that would be like, but...]
You're right. People should be honest with each other about that kind of thing. [The base of her make-up's finished and she's working on her eyes now.] It doesn't do much good for two people to hold back feelings when they could do something about it, and people holding back feelings or not feeling the same way just leads to more hurt feelings anyway. [See: Yu and Minato. Or even Yu and Rise.] But of course I'd tell you. We're friends. That's what friends do, y'know? [Even if she's not ready to say so, because she knows herself. She knows even if she'd be fine saying it she's not ready to see how that'd go just yet but eh, give it a month into the future since this is hella backdated.]
Heh . . . yeah, okay! Good to know! I'm gonna hold you to that! And one more thing . . . if you really weren't interested you'd tell me that too, right?
[Even though this isn't anyone admitting to anything yet, it still feels good to get it out in the open somewhat, and his shoulders relax a little more. Watching her is strangely soothing, too . . . it looks kind of fun. Wouldn't it be cool if dudes could do this kind of thing? he thinks. He gets his fill of self-care with his hair, but . . . ]
[The real question is which one of them spends more time in the mirror. But she smiles more to herself than Leon as she continues, though there's a somewhat knowing look.]
What kind of girl do you think I am, Leon? [She's teasing, mostly.] Of course I'd tell you if that was true. [Likewise, this isn't anyone admitting to anything but it's not a denial either. She's most certainly interested, but there are a lot of hang-ups here. Thus...friend-dates.] Do you have have a lot of girls tell you they aren't interested?
[He snorts, relaxing even more. All right. Good. That's out of the way; he trusts her, and it's good to have had that conversation, even though he didn't know himself that he needed it until it happened.]
Yeah, all the time! Not even I can bat a thousand, know what I mean? Guys who talk themselves into only speaking up to girls they're 100% sure will say yes . . . that's how guys end up never making a move on anyone, y'know? The more you do that, the more you talk yourself into thinking rejection's the worst. It sucks hard, but it ain't the worst!
[She frowns in the mirror then, more thoughtful than usual.]
Sometimes you end up thinking rejection's the worst though, especially if the person who rejects you is still someone you care about a lot. Those feelings don't go away overnight just because they said no to you. [And like that she perks up again almost immediately.] But it always gets better doesn't it? And there's always someone else out there, I think. It's pretty hard to imagine people saying no to you though.
[Not impossible, and she makes that clear when she catches his eye in the mirror, but a little hard to imagine.] You just make it sound like you've had a lot of practice, that's all.
I had a lot of success too! But yeah . . . 'course I had plenty of practice failing at it.
[But, he sees, it's not quite the same thing. He tilts his head and watches her, thinking about the implications of what she'd said there.]
But . . . the kinda dating I did back home, those weren't people I cared about a lot. I guess that'd be pretty different. I never tried confessing before to someone I really, really liked, 'cuz I never really, really liked anyone 'til I got here. Know what I mean? It's pretty easy when you've got nothin' to lose. That's the secret of guys like me! Ha ha . . . yeah, it'd hurt more than just my pride if I really put myself out there for someone and got turned down. That's normal, right?
I don't know if I'd even call what you did back home dating. [She's moved on to putting her hair up now, and she's not really judgmental about it but it's true. Dating, to Rise, means relationships that're based on more than just the physical aspect of it. With Leon she figures they were all just girls he slept with.]
But I think I know what you mean. [Her pride was hurt when Yu told her about Minato. It's normal. Despite that she doesn't seem to want to continue that line of conversation and instead finishes up and turns away from the mirror to face him with the rest of her make-up on and her hair thrown up. She practically bounces off of the seat and toward the closet, slipping a see-through blouse on over the camisole before stopping in front of her bed where Leon is. She stares at him for a moment, critically analyzing him even with a slight smile. Leon...likes someone here. And that's okay. She doesn't have to think about it because it's not her business. If he wants to tell her who, that's up to him. She shouldn't be jealous about it. It's not like she could ever explain herself to him either.
So instead, she holds out her hands to him to pull him up.] You ready?
[Damn, she's beautiful. His voice comes out a little weaker than normal; he's distracted getting a good look at Rise in full Rise-mode. Perfect hair and makeup, cute clothes, perky energy. Not that she doesn't look good all the time—that's one of the principal truths of girls, he's always thought, that a girl who's attractive stays attractive no matter what she does. She could have bedhead and no makeup and be wearing sweats and she'd be friggin' adorable. Better yet, she could be wearing one of his shirts, and nothing else, that'd be nice—
He takes her hands and has a moment where he considers pulling on her instead to topple her onto the bed on top of him. Just for play. Nothing weird or serious. Maybe he'd tickle her sides a little to make her squirm and laugh, and she'd be soft and wiggly under him (hadn't she started out on top in this flight of fancy? eh, things change) and . . .
That's not the kind of thing he can think about too long and then be in public, so he cuts it off and gets to his feet instead, grinning up—and then down—at her.]
[Leon...thank you for being a typical teenage boy. She's oblivious to pretty much all of his thoughts but the way she's examining him seems to say she knows she looks good, and she knows Leon thinks she looks good.
Even with Leon on his feet now and at his full height she doesn't let go of his hands immediately. Rather, she's holding both of them and swinging them for a moment before flashing another cheery grin at him.]
Thanks! And thanks for being cool about waiting...I can't think of a lot of boys who would. [That isn't entirely true but hey. From there, she's leading him out of the room to grab her shoes and her purse.] But you think it's worth it, don't you?
